Timeless Interiors: Designing a Home You'll Love for Years

Tertia · Founder & Interior Designer, Mackenzie Interiors

Every year brings a new design trend. One year it's bold colours, the next it's curved furniture or a particular type of stone. While trends can be inspiring, I've found that the homes people truly love are the ones that aren't designed around what's fashionable today, but around how they want to live.

For me, timeless interiors begin with thoughtful planning. Before choosing fabrics, furniture or finishes, I like to understand how a home will be used and what matters most to the people living there. Good design should make everyday life feel easier, calmer and more enjoyable.

I'm naturally drawn to quality materials that become more beautiful with time. Linen softens, timber develops character and natural stone tells its own story. These are the details that give a home warmth and authenticity without ever feeling dated.

That doesn't mean a timeless home has to feel predictable. It should still reflect your personality. I often introduce subtle layers of texture, carefully chosen artwork or meaningful pieces collected over time. These elements bring character without relying on passing trends.

One of the most rewarding moments is hearing a client say, years later, that they still love walking into their home. That's always the goal ... not to create something that impresses for a season, but a home that continues to feel welcoming, beautiful and unmistakably yours.

Because truly timeless interiors aren't about keeping up with trends. They're about creating spaces you'll still love long after those trends have faded.
